April 27th Letter

Dear Family and Friends,

This week was good. I was tired all week because we ended up teaching lessons every night until 9:30 pm and finished planning at 11 so I haven’t gotten much sleep lately. It will be one of our goals in companionship to get to bed on time so we can wake up on time. This week we went to a baptism of my companion from one of her old sectors. It was a couple that finally got married legally so they both were able to get baptized. President Borg, the mission president did the ordinance. The door was locked to the font and no one had the key so he stood on a chair in front of the font  and announced to everyone that he had to climb over the glass to get to the font. Haha he is very funny. We also had interviews with him this week. It is the last time for them. Him and his wife will be finishing their mission the end of June. Everyone is very sad because you grow to love your mission president and no one wants a new one. That’s just how it is. They are very trunky but very sad to leave. Who knows what the next one with be like.
It has been a good week. We have a baptism this week of a young girl Romina. Next week too. We will see what next week brings. The girl getting baptized on the 9th is very special. Her name is Maria. She is 15 but very intelligent and curious to learn  Her dad is a member but less active. Her brother is Evangelist and always tries to confuse her with their doctrine so she always asks us questions that she heard from her brother. She always asks us questions about things like why do we celebrate the birth of Christ in December when He was really born in April? Why do we have Sundays for the Sabbath and not Saturdays? Stuff like that that always confuses her. Because of this stuff she hasn’t been sure about getting baptized. She always says she wants to know more and hasn’t received an answer to her prayers. So we invite her in every lesson to be baptized and one day she told us to stop doing that because she would tell us when she wanted to be baptized. So after we finished the lesson and left she read her Book of Mormon and prayed. She said she felt so good and received an answer. The next time we came she told us she wanted to be baptized. Woohoo! We are so excited for her. Her mom is really sick and in the hospital and might not make it much longer so her Dad is always there and tells us to distract Maria from thinking about her mom. I know this is her time and that it will bless her life to be able to make this covenant with God. Yay.
Love,
Hanna

April 20th Letter

Dear Family and Friends,

We live across the hall from our bishop. And he has a dog that is always outside the door in her bed and I pet her alot and think of Teddy Geddy.
My companion is from Trujillo, Perù. Where they are going to build the new temple. She has had a hard life. She lived with her dad and grandma until she was 14 years old and didn’t know who her mom was until that age either. Then she moved in with her mom and step dad and had to raise their little kids. She joined the church because her mom was getting baptized. Then her mom went inactive and didn’t let her go to church a lot. When she decided to go on a mission no one wanted her to go and she didn’t even tell her dad because he wasn’t a member. And when she had 12 weeks in the mission her grandma died, not being a member. So she is pretty awesome and strong. She has such a strong desire to be here in the mission it inspires me to work hard. I love her and I am making her try all of the good american food. haha
I had a good week in my new area. We are very busy and we walk alot. My companion is very sweet and teaches me a lot of things. I am learning a lot about the Atonement of Christ. I know He suffered for us so he could save us from spiritual and physical death, but he also did it so he could understand and know how to help us. ALMA 7:11-13. I am comforted to know this time and time again because no one else understands us like he does. He really is there for us and can help us. And I know when our work isn’t enough and when our behavior isn’t the best-he still loves us. Have you seen the Because He Lives video? It’s on YouTube and it will make you cry. It’s so special to know God loves us through the thick and thin.
Love,
Hanna

April 13th Letter

Dear Family and Friends,

Hola! Wow lots of changes this week. They closed our sector in La Marina so now that ward has only 2 sisters and they have to take over all of our investigators and members too… its kind of worries me and I was naturally sad to leave all the members and investigators. We got to say goodbye to lots of people and the bishop and the girl we lived with drove us to the stake center to say our last goodbyes. I’m going to miss them…especially the bishop and Nayme and Daniela-the less active mom and daughter we lived with. They were like a family to us. When we had to tell them we would both be leaving and not living with them anymore it really broke their hearts. She treated us like her own daughters and always made sure we were OK and took us out to eat and always talked to us. She told us all about the special spirit that we brought into her home and would really miss it. But I think we gave them a push in the right direction.  Hopefully in this next 6 weeks they will be reopening the sector so missionaries can live there with her again.
My new sector is Lince ward in the Limatambo stake. It by a rich area and it’s like New York City…the most city area I’ve been in yet. There are buildings and 5 lane roads and CARS EVERYWHERE!!! It’s crazy and huge but we have a McDonald´s nearby. haha My companion is Hermana Castillo. She is from Trujillo, a providence in Perú. She is AWESOME and the sweetest. She is amazing and loving and very dedicated. We get along great and she listens to me and asks me lots of questions about my family. I love her already. She has 2 months before she finishes her mission and goes home. What? yup. Hermana Hunter is in my stake! She was put with 2 hermanas that don’t speak english and in a ward of tourists and I think lots of them speak english so she’s ok. I’m happy to be here and getting to like my new area.  I also share the ward with my best friend in the mission-Hermana Santillana. 2 weeks ago she got news that her half brother died of a heart attack. She was really close to him and she’s suffering alot. I know God put me here to help her. I love sharing the ward with her!
So thats all the news. Hope you have a great week!!!!
Love,
Hanna
